Check Out, Request, and Renew Items?

Check Out Materials

Fruitport District Library offers books, audiobooks, DVDs, and blu-rays. Digital materials can be accessed through Libby, Hoopla, and RB Digital.

Patrons may check out up to 100 items with their library cards (there is a limit of 15 DVDs and 25 CDs). Materials may be checked out at the front circulation desk with a valid Lakeland Library card with fines of less than $10.00. Loan periods and fines vary by item type and owning library.

Request Materials

Patrons can request most items from other Lakeland libraries. They may do so by contacting the library or by accessing their online account. Most holds take a week or two to be fulfilled, though this may be longer based on availability and delivery schedules.

If an item is not available through Lakeland, patrons may be able to reserve it from across the state at mel.org. Not all items can be put on hold.

Renew Materials

Most items can be renewed up to two times. Patrons may do so by contacting the library or by accessing their online account. Items that can be renewed will be renewed automatically three days before they are due.

Items that have been requested by other patrons, or that have hit their renewal limit, can not be renewed.

Return Materials

You can drop most items off at whichever Lakeland library is most convenient to you. Some items, such as those that are large or fragile, must be dropped off at their home library. Contact an item’s owning library to learn more.

Items borrowed from Kent District Library (KDL) may be returned to any Lakeland library. They will be checked in fines-free when they arrive at KDL. Patrons are responsible for them until this time.

Grand Rapids Public Library books must be returned to a Grand Rapids Public Library.

Where Can I Use My Library Card?

You can use your Fruitport District Library card at any Lakeland Library throughout West Michigan, including Muskegon, Spring Lake, and Grand Haven. You may also register your library card at Kent District and Grand Rapids Public Libraries. Find the full list on the Lakeland Library Cooperative website.
