Fruitport District Library

A Warm Welcome to our New Director

Fruitport community members and patrons, we have a big announcement! Please join us in welcoming Lisa Harmon as our new Director of the Fruitport District Library.
A Warm Welcome to our New Director

Lisa comes to us from southern Ohio where she was a Branch Manager with the Fairfield County District Library system and has worked for the Dayton Metropolitan Library and the Columbus Metropolitan Library in various public service roles.  Lisa graduated from Kent State University with her M.L.I.S. in 2008 and has been working in libraries ever since. Before joining the library world, Lisa worked with youth and families in a variety of capacities and is passionate about providing access to free resources and materials to her community that they might not otherwise have without the local public library.

Although Lisa is new to our community, she is not new to our state as she is a born and raised Michigander from the “other side” of the state (Port Huron). In true librarian fashion, Lisa is a mother to two cats, as well as two sons, and is looking forward to making Western Michigan her new family home. Lisa is an avid reader of non-fiction, cookbooks, graphic novels and memoirs but is always open to new reading suggestions! In her free time, she enjoys gardening, traveling and exploring new restaurants and cuisines and she is also known to be quite the puzzle solver and may have even enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame once upon a time solving puzzles on national television. Ask her about it next time you see her as she loves to share her stories!

Lisa and her staff have been hard at work the past few weeks returning the library to its original operating hours and making plans to open back to the community just as soon as safely possible for patrons and staff alike. Lisa is highly impressed with all that Michigan public libraries have to offer and is humbled by your patience and understanding throughout such an unprecedented time. She looks forward to getting to know each of you and your families and feels honored to be chosen to lead your library into the future and beyond!
