Can you believe we are already halfway through summer?

Thank you so much to the over 300 kids, teens, and adults who have signed up for our Summer Reading Program! Keep reading. The program runs until August 17, and you can continue reading beyond the initial levels to earn drawing entries. We have incredible prizes from some amazing sponsors this summer.

Haven’t signed up yet? It’s not too late! Visit the library to sign up and receive your records, or fill out our online registration form today and pick up your records at the library later.

Summer Events

NERF.jpg

We kicked off the summer on June 15 with an afternoon of NERF fun in Pomona Park. It was the perfect event for a cool afternoon.

On Thursday, June 20, the Kalamazoo Air Zoo visited to teach us about the Apollo 11 moon landing, which happened 50 years ago this summer. Kids had a chance to wear an astronaut helmet and practice chipping away at an ice moon’s surface to search for signs of life.

On Wednesday, June 26, we learned all about space itself with Stardog Astronomy. We saw some handmade models of the different planets and their surfaces. I still can’t believe there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on earth!

We’ve also had a blast with Miss Teisha during Story Time, Tuesdays at 10, and Summer Zone, a special elementary-aged story time every Monday at 1:00 until August 26. Check out some of the amazing stories and crafts we’ve encountered.

Upcoming Events

We took a break last week for Fourth of July, but we have more incredible, free programs coming up in the next few weeks.

Come rock out with Benjammin’ Educational Music this Friday, July 12, from 10:30 – 11:30. We’ll move, play, and sing while learning all about health, safety, respect, and science. If the weather is nice, we’ll be in the park!

Like arts and crafts? Come create an alien puppet, and then use it to put on a puppet show of your own! Professional puppeteers will be available to help us out! Wednesday, July 24, from 10:30 – 12:00.

Is drawing your thing? Join artist Corinne Roberts as she shows us how to sketch all sorts of sci-fi creations on Thursday, August 1 at 1:00. Check out her work here.  Her art is outstanding!

We’ll finish off our summer kids programs with a visit from the Outdoor Discovery Center, learning about the unexplained and mind-bending animals of Michigan. We may even meet a few! Thursday, August 8, at 1:00. We can’t wait to see you.
